THE TWO COVENANTS OF GALATIANS
THE TWO COVENANTS OF GALATIANS
Galatians 4:21-22 Tell me, ye that desire to be under (or beneath 5259 Greek) the law....
Verse 22: For it is written, Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a free woman.
Now let’s contemplate this for a moment. Who was the bondwoman? Hagar. How was she a bondwoman? She was the servant of Sarah! Who was the free woman? Sarah. How was she a free woman? She was Abraham’s wife!
How was she considered the free woman when Romans 7:2 says, for the woman that hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband as long as he liveth?
Third verse, forth line… But if her husband be dead she is free from that law!
Now Abraham was still alive; she was still considered the free woman! So let’s continue….. This is how she was considered free;
I Peter 3:5-6 For after this manner, in the old time, the Holy women also, who trusted God, adorned themselves, being in subjection to their own husbands.
Verse 6: Even as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him Lord; who’s daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any (terror)
This did not according to Galatians 4:22, make Sarah a bondwoman just because she was in subjection to the law of her husband! So what is Paul trying to say in Galatians?
Galatians 4:23 But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; But he of the freewoman was by promise;
Yahshua said one time to Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews; John 3:3 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God.
Verse 5: Verily, verily, I say unto you, except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God.
Verse 6: That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is Spirit.
Now both Ishmael and Isaac were born according to the flesh by the will of man, born of a woman. But the difference was, Isaac’s birth was promised 15 years before he was born. Thus God had to bring it about, in order for it to happen; because their bodies were not capable of having a baby without a miracle from God, in the natural course of nature to bring forth Isaac.
CHILD OF PROMISE, YET BORN OF THE FLESH! ACCORDING TO THE TIME OF LIFE! Genesis 18:10
Galatians 4:24 Which things are an allegory; (comparison) for these are the two covenants: the one from Mount Sinai, bearing children for bondage, who is Hagar.
Verse 25: For this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth or (corresponds, 4960 Gr. sustoy kheh-o) to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.
Verse 26: But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the Mother of us all. (In other words, Jerusalem represents Sarah, who had a husband, but was desolate, or barren, that barest not nor travailed not, but has more children than Hagar now, who had Sarah’s husband. I Peter 3:6.
Now just as in Abraham‘s time, there were two sons given, so in Moses’ time there were given two covenants.
Deut. 29:1 These are the words of the covenant, which Yahweh commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of Moab. (Or Sinai but finished in Moab. Check Numbers 36:13, the same ones Lev. 27:34, Deut. 31:24) Just not finished until they reached Moab, across from Jericho. Besides, (or separate, or apart from) (905 Heb=bad) the covenant which he made with them in Horeb. (Deut. 5:2 the covenant of Horeb.) Now the first covenant was of promise, as Isaac.
Exodus 19:5 Now therefore if you will obey my voice indeed and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people;
Verse 6: And ye shall be to me a Kingdom of priest, an Holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.
This was a promise to the Holy nation of Israel, not just the Levites, if they could believe!! Just as it is again today. I Peter 2:9 & Hebrews 3:7-8.
But as it tells us in Hebrews, they refused him that spoke. Hebrews 12:25 See that ye refuse not Him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spoke on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven.
Verse 26: Whose voice then shook the earth; but now he hath promised saying, yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven.
So as Sarah refused the son of promise by giving Abraham Hagar, (Genesis 16:1-3 & Genesis 15:4-5 & Genesis 17:15-16) who was an Egyptian, so the Israelites refused the covenant of promise, to be Kings and Priests, a peculiar treasure. For the covenant that gender to bondage that made the LEVITES ONLY priests; by the hand of Moses, which was the type of Hagar an Egyptian.
So as Hagar’s conception and bringing forth did not prevent Sarah’s bringing forth years later, the Isaac, the seed of promise; So even now, the Israelites refusing the covenant of promise, did not prevent, even though the covenant of bondage did conceive and bring forth,a nation of Kings and priests.
When the time was come a man child was brought forth. Born of a free woman, that he might redeem us from the bondwoman, and make us the children of promise according to the first covenant! That all nations might be blessed in us!
Hebrews 8:9 And yet not according to the first covenant, that I made with their fathers, in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; (Why?) Because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith Yahweh.
Verse 10: For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel, after those days, saith Yahweh: I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts;
II Corinthians 3:3 Not on tables of stone, nor written with ink, but upon the fleshly tables of the heart.
Hagar could have a child after the flesh! The Israelites could have a Kingdom after the flesh! Denominational churches can have a church after the flesh! BUT SARAH COULDN’T HAVE A CHILD AFTER THE FLESH! And Hagar’s wasn’t accepted, this made Hagar despise Sarah!
The Israelites couldn’t obey the spiritual commandments to get the promise of eternal inheritance and kingship, so they despised Yahshua, the child of promise, the author of the new covenant and that of the first, since the last is preferred before the first; because the last, which was Isaac, was promised and made known before Ishmael. And so was the new covenant with the Ten Commandments and promise of a kingdom of priesthood.
But as with Sarah, it took the Holy Spirit to cause her to bring forth! Even now it takes a miracle of the Holy Spirit to bring forth the Man Child, kingdom and priests in us that is of the promise!
Abraham and Sarah had never stopped trying to have a child even though they had never been able to have one. But it was not because of the flesh trying that finally brought a child, Isaac; because their bodies were already considered dead through age. It was because of the spirit that was promised.
And so it is with us, we never stop trying to keep the commandments of God, even though they themselves do not produce the man child kingdom nature in our lives. But we believe the promise that He shall send His Holy Spirit upon all flesh that brings forth the new creature or nature, incorruptible in our hearts and minds. That makes us a peculiar treasure, an Holy nation, a royal priesthood. I Peter 2:9 Exodus 19:5 This is the covenant of Promise!
Hebrews 13:8 Yahshua Christ the same yesterday, today and forever!! So is His covenant of promise!
