                               Drinking Alcohol

 

I Thessalonians 5:1-8  ¶ But of  the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.

2  For yourselves know perfectly that the day of Yahshua so cometh as a thief in the night.

3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.

6 ¶ Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. <nepho> (3525 to abstain from Wine, be sober)

 

Note: in other words in order to watch for his coming properly we should not be drinking alcohol, but should be sober so as to keep our mind clear.. to watch for his coming that it will not be as a thief in the night to us..

 

 7 For they that sleep, sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. 

8 But let <nepho> (3525 Abstain from wine) us, who are of the day, be sober, <nepho> (3525 Abstain from wine) putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

 

NOTE: he is saying, let us who are of the day abstain from wine... so that we can watch and be ready... Are we of the Day or are we of the night..

 

Drinking Alcohol is a form of comfort, forgetting your sorrows, Yahshua wants our full attention, nothing else is supposed to take his place in comfort for us.. It is sort of like when parents’ discipline, sometimes children will go to the parent that isn’t the disciplinary one and try to get comfort from that parent instead of the one that disciplined them. That is what you are doing when you turn to alcohol for your comfort, relaxing, or whatever you want to call it, you are turning to your alcohol for your comfort instead of prayer… and it gets you into trouble..

 

II Timothy 2:4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.

Our greatest goal is to please him who hath chosen us, it is not to see how much we can get by with and still make it in. If we dull our mind with alcohol then we sometimes fail to see other things that we are failing in as well; which is exactly what Satan wants us to do.

 

Matthew 5:13-16 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

 14: Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid.

 15: Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

 16: Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

When salt has been mixed with other food it takes on the flavor of what ever it is mixed with. So we, when we mix with the world we start taking on their characteristics, and soon you can’t tell the difference.  We should stand out like a light on a candle stick in a dark house. 

I Peter 5:8  8: Be sober, (3525; to abstain from wine, keep sober; be discreet) be vigilant; (1127  to keep awake; watch) because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

1Pe 1:13 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober (3525; to abstain from wine, keep sober; be discreet), and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought  unto you at  the revelation of Yahshua Messiah;

 

1Pe 4:7 But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch (3525; to abstain from wine, keep sober; be discreet) unto prayer.

All of the above verses plainly tell us to abstain from alcohol. I do not believe that Yahshua would have made something that we were plainly told to abstain from.  I believe that what he made was grape juice; He turned the water into grape juice.

 

Ephesians 5:18  And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess (810 unsavedness, Profligacy meaning shameless dissoluteness or indifferent to moral restraints); but be filled with the Spirit;

 

Being filled with the Spirit is a much better high than to drink to calm your nerves and relieve your stress.

 

All of the above verses plainly tell us to abstain from alcohol. I do not believe that Yahshua would have made something that we were plainly told to abstain from.  I believe that what he made was grape juice; He turned the water into grape juice.

 

Proverbs23:19-21,"Hear thou, my son and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way. Be not among winebibbers; (H3196 to efferversce, efferversce means to give off bubbles of gas as fermenting liquors) among riotous eaters of flesh: for the DRUNKARD and the glutton shall come to poverty.”

 

And even though society tells you that drinking is fun, that people who drink are social and attractive, and that a 1itt1e wine is good for your health, the Bible tells us something very Different:

 

Proverbs 20: 1 "Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived (H7686 led astray) thereby is not wise.”

 

Hosea 4:11 "Whoredom and wine (H3196 fermented wine) and new wine take away the heart." (H3820 the feelings or the will and even the entellect)

 

Even Pharaoh preferred grape juice (Gen.40:11) to rotten, decaying alcoholic grape juice.

 

The unfortunate thing for us in the 21st Century is that early history made little or no written distinction between grape juice (the fruit of the vine) and fermented grape juice containing alcohol which puts the burden of proof upon context and therefore personal opinion.

 

It is reported in early English the word, "WINE" was used for both the pure blood of the grape undefiled (grape juice) and also for that which has began to decay, rot, and go in the direction of spoilage containing alcohol. In 1380 English the "Wyne" come from the "Vyne". According to Webster's 1828 we see even clearer the connection of the original word "wine" being tied to Italian, Spanish, and Russian "vino", Latin “vinum” we begin to see the connection of VINE (Spanish vina, Latin vinum) to WINE; THEREFORE FRESH SQUEEZED GRAPES WERE SPOKEN AND WRITTEN TO PRODUCE, "WINE", "yayin" Hebrew, "oinos" Greek, all UNFERMENTED); their clear wording for “grape juice" was worded "fruit of the vine" in the New Testament.

 

We are quickly reminded of I Timothy 5:23 by those that endorse or encourage ALCOHOL use, if only for COMMUNION or medical use. However anyone who has had stomach trouble knows that one thing you stay away from is} ALCOHOL in any form, because it upsets a sensitive stomach. The Medical Profession states that grape juice unfermented is MORE beneficial for stomach aliments than ALCOHOL in grape juice.

 

I Corinthians 10:23 All things are lawful (1832 right)for me, but all things are not expedient (4851 good): All things are lawful (1832 right) but all things edify (3618 & 3619 build the house) not.

 

It may seem right in our own eyes but we are supposed to be building a house for Yahweh, and all things do not help build the house, some things actually work to destroy and tear it down.

To we want the day of Yahweh to come on us as a thief in the night? Or do we want to be watching, sober and ready when he returns? Do we value friendship of the world over Yahweh’s word? Are we building a house for Yahweh, or are we building with the world?

Revelation 5:10 And hast made us unto our Elohiym kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

Leviticus 10:8-10  And Yahweh spake unto Aaron, saying, Do not drink wine nor strong drink, thou, nor thy sons with thee, when ye go into the tabernacle of the congregation, lest ye die: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations:

10 And that ye may put difference between holy and unholy, and between unclean and clean;

Luke 1:15 Elizabeth was told before John was born that he would be great, and that he would drink neither wine nor strong drink… Why? Because instead he would be filled with the Holy Spirit from his mothers womb.. The Holy Spirit is a much better comforter the Alcohol ever was..

The reason the Nazirite was not to drink alcohol was to show that they were fully given to Yahweh, nothing else stood between, nothing else had their love or desire, they were sold out to Yahweh..

I Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar (G4047 Purchased) people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light;

We are a purchased people, purchased by his blood… and we are to show forth his praises… does drinking show forth the praises of Yahweh or the world?
