Yorkshire Terriers, affectionately known as Yorkies, offer big personalities in small packages. Though members of the toy group, they are Terriers by nature and are brave, determined, investigative, and energetic. Though they come in a variety of colors the most common color for the Yorkie is the Black or blue and tan, long luxurious coat.

 

Named for the English City from which they originally hail, Yorkshire Terriers in the nineteenth century, were used to catch rats in clothing mills. Surprisingly enough, Yorkies originally belonged to the working class.Especially the waevers. In fact facetious comments were made about how the dogs fine silky coats were the ultimate product of the looms.

Eventually the dogs left the work force and became companion animals for the families of European high society. Their coat requires regular brushing.
